Environmental awareness campaigns like Earth Hour and Earth Day have started to attract more attention from public to look into the environment issues. There are getting more and more environmental products have been introduced in the market example like Panasonic Group actively committed to develop eco-friendly electrical products and now we have Green Building Index (GBI) for property industry at Malaysia. GBI is one of the specially designed Green Rating tools for tropical climate like Malaysia.

How many Green Rating tools available in the world that you know or heard about before? For some better know ones like UK’s BREEAM, USA’s LEED, Japan’s CASBEE, Australia’s GREENSTAR, Singapore’s GREENMARK and now Malaysia’s GBI (GREEN BUILDING INDEX). Malaysia BOLEH!
GREEN BUILDING INDEX – Malaysia
GBI Malaysia is developed by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) and the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM). The initiative of GBI believed able to lead the Malaysian property industry towards becoming more environment friendly. I am so exciting during my first listening on the initiative idea, Green Building Index (GBI). And I believe throughout the idea, there will be more developers ‘forced’ to look into their development to adopt the GBI which to become of their concern for their reputation and branding image for property investor. LOL, sorry to use the word ‘forced’!
Hopefully the rating system able to guide developers on design and construct green, sustainable buildings that can provide energy savings, water savings, a healthier indoor environment, better connectivity to public transport and the adoption of recycling and greenery for their projects.
